HARVARD UNIVERSITY

DEANS OFFICES

FACULTY OF ARTS & SCIENCES

These administrative offices create a new, collaborative work environment for the Deans of two different disciplines in Harvard’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS). Using the modernist framework of Holyoke Center, we employed a minimalist palette of materials and arrangement of spaces, inflecting each as necessary to accommodate the diverse group’s many functions. Private offices line the perimeter, using glass walls to bring daylight to the central common area and enabling visual communication among the staff. Conference rooms with moveable walls occupy the central core. Conceived as a single space, this area can be opened or closed, divided or joined, made public or private. These offices establish a new standard for FAS’ administration, focused on supporting cooperative relationships and the University’s sustainability initiatives.
