AUGSBURG UNIVERSITY
OLD MAIN
Old Main is the crown jewel of the Augsburg University campus. Its Renaissance-revival architecture captures the imagination, speaking both to the school’s heritage and to its developing role as a pivotal element in a new, central quadrangle, and as a vital connection within the University’s tightly knit, diverse neighborhood. As a renewed centerpiece for student learning, Old Main will house multi-faceted programming that includes humanities classrooms, a new Welcome Center, and an Interfaith Institute. These will be synthesized with new places for gathering that will draw students, faculty, and the public to its compelling new spaces, revealing a new order for Augsburg’s cutting edge education and inclusive culture.

AW developed a vision for Old Main’s transformation that will achieve the University’s desire for a new Humanities and Arts Center. Our feasibility study includes building conditions assessment, code analysis, programming, concept design, budgetary cost estimating, and collateral fundraising materials. During this process, we also analyzed options for re-locating, co-location, and swing space that would support academic departments displaced during construction. With this information, Augsburg University is well positioned to take the project forward, from a dream into reality.
